Ear Reduction

Face Aesthetic

Ear reduction surgery most commonly focuses on reducing the vertical height of the ear to give improved facial balance. Macrotia or an enlarged ear is frequently due to an enlarged scapha in the upper third of the ear, which is the area between the helical rim and the antihelix. By reducing the vertical height of the ear, ear reduction can help achieve improved proportions.

What happens during ear reduction surgery?

The surgery is usually performed under local anaesthetic, although general anaesthetic may be used in some cases. Jonathan will start by making an incision within the helical rim of the ear so the scar will be hidden, and excess skin cartilage from the front and potentially skin are then removed. The wound is closed meticulously with fine sutures to achieve a reduction in the vertical height of the ear, hiding the scar within the helical rim of the ear.
