Mini-Abdominoplasty

Body

Mini-abdominoplasty surgery, also known as a mini-tummy tuck, is an aesthetic procedure that reduces excess skin and fat in the lower abdominal area. The surgery removes the excess skin resulting in a flatter and more toned abdomen with reduced stretch marks in the lower abdominal region. It is less invasive than a full abdominoplasty and suited to those with a small amount of excess skin and can be performed under local anaesthetic in some cases.

What happens during mini-abdominoplasty surgery?

Jonathan will make a limited incision just above the pubic area which will be hidden with underwear. Through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed, and the underlying muscles may be tightened if necessary. Liposuction may also be performed to further contour the area. The remaining skin is then pulled downwards and sutured into place.

Faqs | Mini-Abdominoplasty

  • Mini-abdominoplasty surgery can be ideal for individuals who have a relatively small amount of sagging skin in the lower part of the abdomen. Mini-abdominoplasty surgery is less invasive compared to a full tummy tuck and requires a smaller incision. Jonathan will remove the excess skin and tighten the muscles in the lower abdomen to create a flatter and more toned appearance. Recovery time is shorter than that of a full tummy tuck, and the surgery can sometimes be performed under local anaesthetic.

  • It is often recommended for patients who have experienced weight loss or pregnancy and are left with a small amount of loose, excess skin.

  • Jonathan will assess your overall health and discuss your goals and expectations for the surgery. He’ll also examine your abdomen to determine if you are a suitable candidate, explain the surgical process, including the incisions that will be made and the expected recovery time. This is also a good opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

  • A mini-abdominoplasty may be performed under local anaesthetic, which means you’ll be awake but the area being operated on is numbed by injections. You shouldn’t be in any pain during the procedure itself. After the surgery, you may experience some soreness, swelling, and bruising in the treated area, but this can usually be managed with pain medication.

  • Mini-abdominoplasty surgery, takes around 1 hour to complete. However, it is important to note that the actual time may vary depending on the extent of the procedure and any additional techniques that may be performed alongside it.

  • Unlike a full abdominoplasty, this procedure focuses on addressing excess skin and fat below the belly button. The results of a mini-abdominoplasty can vary depending on the individual’s body type and goals. Generally, patients can expect a flatter and smoother abdominal contour, as well as a reduction in the appearance of stretch marks and scars. The surgery can also help tighten weakened abdominal muscles below the belly button, resulting in a firmer and more toned appearance.

  • While it is generally considered a safe procedure, like any surgery, there are risks involved. Jonathan will discuss all potential risks and benefits with you.

3. Aftercare

Jonathan will recommend you keep the area dry for 48 hours and at that point it can be wet in the shower. It is important to wear a compression garment for six weeks following surgery. Where muscle repair has been performed, core exercises must be avoided for three months.

Moisturising and massaging are the mainstay of post-operative scar management, while laser and micro-needling can speed up the scar maturation process. It is also crucial to protect the treated area from sun exposure. In case of any signs of infection or bleeding, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
