Arm Lift

Body

Arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, is a procedure that can solve several problems commonly experienced after weight loss or as skin laxity develops with age. It addresses excess skin and fat in the upper arms (above the elbow) and can result in significant functional improvements. This excess skin can be a source of discomfort, wounds and self-consciousness for many individuals, especially when wearing sleeveless clothing. The result of this surgery should be a more toned and contoured arm appearance.

What happens during arm lift surgery?

During arm lift surgery, excess skin and fat will be removed from the upper arms. Jonathan will make an incision along the inner arm and excess skin and fat will be carefully removed, and the remaining skin will be tightened and sutured back together. Adjunctive liposuction may be needed to remove excess fat deposits in areas surrounding the upper arms, such as the back or the armpit region. This can help achieve a more balanced and contoured appearance.

  • Arm lift surgery is a procedure often performed on individuals who have loose, sagging skin in the upper arms due to weight loss, ageing, or genetics. During the surgery, an incision is made along the inner arm, and the excess skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin is then tightened and sutured back together to create a more toned and contoured appearance.

  • Jonathan will begin your consultation with him by discussing your reasons for wanting the procedure and your desired outcomes. Then he will then assess your overall health and examine your arms to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the surgery.

  • The arm lift surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and there may be some pain and discomfort afterwards during the recovery period, but you will be prescribed pain relief to help.

  • It takes from 1 to 2 hours to complete. However, it is important to note that the duration may be longer for more complex cases or if additional procedures are performed simultaneously. Jonathan will be able to provide a more accurate estimate during your initial consultation with him, taking into consideration your specific needs and goals.

  • Your arms should have a more toned, sculpted and youthful appearance after surgery, with a more flattering contour and shape. The scar from the surgery is placed on the inner arm, where it can be hidden or disguised. Jonathan will take great care to ensure that the scar is as inconspicuous as possible, blending it with the natural creases and lines of the arm. With proper post-operative care, the scar can fade over time and become less noticeable.

  • There is a possibility of scarring, numbness or changes in sensation in the treated area, as well as infection, which is a risk during any surgery. All risks and benefits associated with arm lifts will be discussed with you during the consultation.

1. Your Consultation

Jonathan will carefully evaluate your arms, taking into consideration factors such as skin elasticity, muscle tone, and the amount of excess fat or skin present. This evaluation will help him determine the most appropriate surgical technique to achieve the desired results.

2. Your Treatment

Jonathan will make incisions along the inner or backside of the arms, depending on your individual needs. The excess skin and fat are carefully excised, and the remaining skin is tightened and repositioned. The incisions are then closed with sutures, and the arms are wrapped with bandages or compression garments to aid in healing.

3. Aftercare

Jonathan will recommend you keep the area dry for 48 hours and at that point it can be wet in the shower. You should keep your arms elevated as much as possible in the initial days after the surgery to reduce swelling and promote healing. It is important to wear a compression garment for six weeks following surgery. Strenuous activities or heavy lifting should be avoided during the recovery period.

Moisturising and massaging are the mainstay of post-operative scar management, while laser and micro-needling can speed up the scar maturation process. In case of any signs of infection or bleeding, it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
